Tech Tips and News for March 1, 2019

Today's post is like this winter's weather, a hodge podge of different conditions, and warnings. Here in Michigan, it feels like we've had an entire winter season, with pretty much every condition you can imagine, in the last month. Included are security warnings and advice, general tech tips, and useful tech activities for teachers. While we're hunkering down in the extreme weather, it's a good time to make sure your accounts are secure, or try a new tech tip. It'll keep your mind occupied while waiting for signs of Spring.

Check the list of the 16 websites that were hacked to see if you use any of them. If so, and you have not changed your online passwords in the past several months, please do so now. 16 websites at once were breached. If you are using the same password for several accounts, change them all.

The only two things I would add to this list are:  1) Try a different browser (if you're using Chrome, try Firefox, etc.) and 2) Clear the history, cookies and cache in your browser and restart it.

G Suite Updates:  

Intelligent Search in Google Drive

When you click in the search box in Google Drive, it will now present you with suggested search topics, people with whom you've collaborated recently and file types to search by. You can, of course, just simply type in your search criterial as well. Full details can be found in this blog post.

Quick Access Side Panel in Drive

The side panel contains links to Calendar, Keep and Tasks. You will now be able to access this from the web version of Drive. Here are the details.
