Google Drive:  Block Another User From Sharing Files With You

You cannot block a user from your own domain, but you can block external users. Blocking their ability to share files with you, or see your shared files also blocks them from interacting with you in other Google Workspace apps. Why is this important? You can now block users who send you spam or inappropriate content. This is availabe on both work and personal Google accounts. Full information can be found here

Google Forms:  Your Progress is Automatically Saved as You Respond to Forms and Quizzes

You no longer need to complete Google Forms all in one session. Forms will now save your progress, so you can start completing a form or quiz, leave it, then return and pick up where you left off. The form will auto-save, and keep the saved draft for up to 30 days from your last edit, or until you submit the form. Find all the details here

Google Meet:  New Web App for Meetings on Desktop Computers

The stand-alone desktop app works with Google Chrome on a Windows, Mac, Chrome or Linux device, and is always up to date. No need to open Calendar or the Meet app to find your next meeting, simply install the Meet Progressive Web app following these instructions. Once you've installed the Meet app, it will appear in your app dock. Where is the app dock? On a Chromebook it's a circle in the lower left corner, on a Windows, Mac or Linux PC it's the multi-colored Apps "waffle" in the upper left corner of your bookmarks bar.

Google Meet:  Add up to 25 Co-Hosts & Expanded Safety Features

In the next few weeks, Google is rolling out several highly requested features for Google Meet:
  • Each meeting can have up to 25 co-hosts, allowing co-hosts to access and use host controls. When the Host Management option is on, co-hosts will e anle to limit who can share screens and send messages, mute all with one click, end the meeting for all, and use the Quick Access feature.
  • Safety features to limit who can share screens, send chat messages, mute all users and end meetings.
  • Use the Quick Access setting to control who needs to request permission to join a meeting. When Quick Access is on, the host does not have to join the meeting first to be recognized as the Meet host,  any Meet attendees can automatically join. Most hosts turn this off after they have joined the Meet. When quick access is off, the host must join the meeting first, only invited participants can join without asking - all others must ask to enter the Meet, no anonymous users can join the meeting, and only the host can end the Meet for all.
  • Updates to the People panel include the ability to search for a Meet participant. This will allow hosts to easily find participants to mute, kick them out or assign host privileges.
Full explanations and details for these new features can be found here. You should start to see them by the end of August.
